    El COI, que se mostró "extremadamente preocupado" por los problemas de gobierno de la Federación Internacional Amateur (AIBA), amenazó con retirar el boxeo del programa de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020.

    "Estamos extremadamente preocupados a propósito del gobierno de la AIBA", declaró el presidente del Comité Olímpico Internacional, Thomas Bach.

    El COI "se reserva el derecho de reexaminar la presencia del boxeo en los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud en Buenos Aires (octubre de 2018) y en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio-2020", añadió Bach.

    A principio de la semana, el Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), preocupado por la designación del controvertido Gafur Rakhimov como presidente interino de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo amateur (AIBA), suspendió sus ayudas económicas a la instancia

    El boxeo es uno de los deportes más antiguos en el programa olímpico, presente desde los Juegos Olímpicos de 1904 en San Luis.

    Gafur Rakhimov, empresario uzbeko de 66 años, fue nombrado el sábado al frente de la AIBA con carácter interino hasta las próximas elecciones de noviembre.
